Much of the rich history can still be seen in Barnstable County, with many meeting houses, churches, and houses that date back to the 17-18th centuries. Before the Pilgrims arrived, the main Native American inhabitants were the Nausets and Wampanoags. Their lasting impression can be seen in the names of various towns and streets, including places like Nauset Beach and Mashpee.
